"The Scream" by Julia Louise

What a weekend we had. Saturday night I got up at around 2:30AM to feed Julia and almost passed out. Then I began shaking and couldn't stop. Eric got up, we called my Mom who came immediately and we headed to the ER. I was really worried that I had some sort of post par tum infection and I got very scared when they told me I had a fever of 102.4. After a series of blood work and other tests it turns out I have a very bad ear infection and sinus infection. I don't think I've every gotten so sick so fast in my life! Then again, I've probably been sick for a while and just didn't realize it because of all of the aches and pains of delivery and a broken tailbone. The further into my antibiotic regimen I get the more I realize that I felt pretty crappy for a while, but seriously, who has time to notice with a three year old and a two week old?

To speak to the picture above, Julia is a champ. She nurses, she bottle feeds, she paci's with no problem. I breastfeed as her primary source of nutrition and plan on doing so for as long as possible, just like I did with Lucas. However, this time around I am being a lot more laid back about the bottles since it isn't causing her any nipple confusion of any kind. I pump breast milk and we do formula and Eric can help with feedings. This is really saving my sanity! I feel like I can turn her over to him and spend time with Lucas, or take a shower, or sleep at 4am! Her latest pattern is to want to constantly nurse from about 2 to 6am. I feed her as much as I can and then wake Eric up around 3:30 for a bottle. I sleep until 7 when Lucas gets up. Eric and Julia sleep until around 8 after going back down around 5. It just really works for us and I feel human so much sooner than I did with Lucas. It's funny, everybody does it differently and it is all about what works for you.

Good for you guys. Don't pay any attention to all the hyperbolic propaganda on both sides of what is a very complicated issue. (My point will be proven I'm sure if someone comes along and takes me to task on your blog.) Happy parents=happy kids. PERIOD.

There is no right way to parent or wrong way (assuming that we all aren't putting out cigarettes on our kids arms or pimping them on some reality show, I'm talking to you Jon and Kate, those are definitely wrong ways and parents should be prosecuted to fullest extent of the law, especially Jon and Kate) there is just the way it works for you.

Hope I see you tomorrow!

I'm so glad you are okay!!! How scary. (((hugs))) Julia is beautiful and thriving, and you are obviously doing an awesome job of feeding her. How lucky for us to live in a country with options for feeding our babies...and how lucky for our babies, too! Btw, Blythe is also a 2-6 am marathon nurser. We could have playdates from 2am- 6am! LOL!
