The tradition in Michigan is that the entire group is broken up into cooking teams. Each team gets a night that they are in charge of. That team prepares appetizers and drinks for the circle of guests to eat at around 7pm each evening. Most of the best pictures of Michigan are taken during the circling of friends.
Lucas loved the circle the first time we went when he was 2, and this year it was the same. He entertained by falling out of his chair over and over while wearing his batman jammies with a "complete utility belt." He is a ham of a performer through and through.
He loves his uncle George (top picture) who has taunted generations of Gintarian children for years with promises of sending them to the dump. It is a running joke that will continue for many years to come.
Julia Louise got a lot of circle time as well. We have some pictures of her sitting in her own chair and loving the crowd.
This Lucas's buddy Bere. They were best of friends two years ago and again this year. We weren't really sure how it would go, what with Bere being a 13 year-old boy and Lucas being 4... but Bere was WONDERFUL. He and his twin Abby loved the kids to death. Bere got Lucas in the water on several occasions, which was a victory given Luc's recent skittishness around water after falling in to the deep end during a swim lesson. Bere and Abby are champion swimmers, and Lucas really looked up to them (Bere for the swimming and camaraderie, Abby for her big brown eyes). Bere did such a great job with Luc, he was his buddy and friend the entire time we were there, playing with him, talking to him, taking him outside to play and down to the beach. We are hoping to go watch him swim in the state championships at the Natatorium next month.
This is dinner time at Gintaras. The adults table is the big long one on the screened in porch. The kids eat in the adjoining dining room which is separated only by windows that we leave open. You'll notice that the average age of the "kids" is around 25.
A special thanks to Katie from whom I stole all of these pictures. They were just too beautiful to pass up and I am lacking in images at the moment. Happy Michigan everyone, see you in 2011!
